Strive to make Liuyang River a happy river that satisfies the people.
On September 26, the reporter followed the Ministry of Water Resources' "The Most Beautiful Rivers and Lakes" themed interview team went to Changsha City, Hunan Province to learn about the experience and practices of Liuyang River in the construction of demonstration rivers and lakes.
Protect Changsha Water Conservation Area from the Source
The Liuyang River originates from the foothills of Dawei Mountain at the junction of Hunan and Jiangxi. Its source is Daxi River in the north and Xiaoxi River in its south. The two sources are called Liuyang River when they merge at Shuangjiangkou. Yin Hui, director of the Changsha Water Resources Bureau's River Chief System, told reporters that the first-level tributary Xiaoxi River is the source of the Liuyang River and one of the drinking water sources for residents in Changsha City. The Zhushuqiao Reservoir, located on the Xiaoxi River, has a total storage capacity of 278 million cubic meters and provides more than 500,000 tons of water to Changsha City every day. The water source protection area involves 5 towns and villages. The Changsha water source protection area is protected in a multi-pronged manner by establishing a protection network, setting up three professional protection teams, establishing a water quality early warning system, strictly controlling source pollution, and strengthening legal supervision.

"In order to ensure the ecological flow of the Liuyang River, the Zhushuqiao Reservoir has established an ecological flow power station to ensure that water is supplied to the middle and lower reaches at a rate of 2.1 cubic meters of water per second. From the source to the mouth of the Xiangjiang River, 25 monitoring stations have been built. , To monitor more than 20 indicators of the surface water environment to ensure that the source water quality is above Class III." Yin Hui said.
Shiwan Village, Gaoping Town, Liuyang City, 5 kilometers away from Zhushuqiao Reservoir, is the core area of Hunan Liuyang River National Wetland Park. According to Zhang Yigen, the mayor of Gaoping Town and the mayor of the township-level river, before the construction of the Liuyang River National Wetland Park, Jiuqu Bay was originally a wasteland with an abandoned sand factory. During the period, there was overgrown weeds, lack of management, garbage dumping at will, and poor water quality. Good, poor living environment, surrounding people cover their noses and bypass. At the end of 2019, in order to implement the Liuyang River and Xiaoxi River governance requirements, protect the green waters and mountains, and comprehensively improve the quality of life of residents along the river, Liuyang City has launched the Liuyang River National Wetland Park construction project. Through the construction of river-type wetlands and water conservation forests, the Jiuqu Bay section of the Liuyang River has been comprehensively controlled, the aquatic ecological environment has been restored, aquatic biological resources have been protected, and management disorder has been completely eliminated.
“Gaoping Town is in a water source protection area and can only develop eco-tourism. Today’s Jiuqu Bay is full of peaks and mountains, with dense old trees and vines, green and clear rivers, and the residents’ sense of gain for walking along the river is increasing, and long-lost cheers and laughter resound through the sky. ." Zhang Yigen said.
